Medina Mayor Dennis Hanwell has asked residents to begin conserving water due to a service interruption.

Water service provided to the city by Avon Lake Municipal Utilities has been halted.

The company informed city officials at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday that the water intakes in Lake Erie were frozen over and Avon Lake Municipal Utilities staff was working throughout the night to open them.

As of 7:30 a.m. the water storage tanks in the city were becoming depleted and water is still not being produced by Avon Lake.

The city has notified the critical water users in the city and also request that all city users curtail and restrict the use of water as much as possible until Avon Lake is able to send water to replenish the city’s tanks.

The city will send out another press release lifting the ban when the tanks have been refilled.

Water is to be used only for drinking, cooking, personal washing and flushing of toilets.

Industry has been requested to curtail operations requiring water use to preserve water supplies for human consumption, and to hold a reserve of water for fire defense.

For any questions, please contact the Medina City Service office at (330) 722-9081.
